Original Music & More

Below is a partial repository of original music… Songwriter Dennis has contributed to. As I identify more of the many “reel-to-reel tapes” I keep finding… I will attempt to transfer from tape… the songs… to computer… to post.

BTW:   In reference to the two stage plays Composer Chandler did the music for… some of those songs need to have lead vocals added. Sadly, funding for the Arts via NEA (Nat’l Endowment for the Arts) and other sources… has been eliminated… we could use singers who are ready, willing and able… (can you spell: V-o-l-u-n-t-e-e-r). So please, send some our way. Thank you. signed, Producer Liz.

In the meanwhile… enjoy…

Maybe Someday”

Click on the above title to hear… the talented singer Melissa Barber’s rendition of a song from  “Just We Two – A New Musical”.

The premise of this play is based on a situation everyone can relate to:   A loved one lying in a bed in a hospital room. The play begins with family members coming into the room to visit. They are then seen one by one, pondering and reflecting upon their life together with the patient. Emotions come back in flashbacks, emotions come in the moment. They lament. They cajole. They sing their hearts out with their respective “shoulda-woulda-couldas”.  Again, everyone will relate to this play.

Book & Lyrics were written by a former syndicated cartoonist-turned-playwright, Larry Brenner. He mixes humor with pathos. The lead character is a writer… working with words. So he likes to deliver his dialogue in short sing-song syllables. But he wants to be taken seriously. He finds himself singing his own laments of “should-would-couldas”. This play is semi-autobiographical for both lyricist and composer.

The music was written by Composer Dennis Chandler. His lament was that he wanted all 22 songs to be melodic. He was serious about keeping the music accessible (read: after the play… going up the aisle… can one hum some of the music?)  So in the tradition and style of old Broadway… Dennis even did some of the few rock ‘n’ roll songs in that melodic mode. In composing parlance… get ready to be hooked by the hooks (of the songs).

So… OUT OF TRAGEDY COMES ART, again. For these two survivors… as Shakespeare said they,  “…know from whence they speak”.

Go Browns

This is the song Dennis dreamed he and Barbra Streisand were arranging… how she should sing it (her way, of course). In his dream, (which happened while Den was undergoing chemo (’87) for treatment for AML-type leukemia), he said they were sitting under the shelter of a big beautiful tree… laughing and enjoying their blessing of being able to make music ( again).  Well, from our lips to G_d’s ear… or… in at the very least, Barbra Streisand’s ears! It could happen, no? (Read more about Dennis’ battle and victory over cancer… on the page titled “The Journey”)  Signed, Liz Chandler
