Amps are to guitars like microphones are to singers. Finding the perfect match can be challenging. Here are my choices after trying virtally all the major brands.

Fender Twin Reverb w/ Orange JBL Speaker The front of a silver face Fender Twin Reverb is a common sight. The back is another story. Here is the Holy Grail of Fender Twin Reverb amps. It has the ORANGE Fender JBL speaker option. No other TR sounds like this! Last Modified on Jun 8, 2006 GMT |

Gibson Gold Chorus Amp Gibson has a history of making quality amps that were not marketed successfully. Here is a perfect example from 1991. It does everything but walk! It is the first Gibson amp DC has ever owned. It captures the highly desired vintage sound of Rock's first decade. This is an unknown Gibson amp model that has to be heard to be believed. Lab Series K5 This could be, quite possibly, the rarest amp in the entire Lab Series line. In an attempt to market a keyboard amp, the K5 was introduced. It has 2 - 12 speakers and 2 concentrically mounted tweeters. The sound is magnificent. The sales were terrible. This is another of the Gibson amps that was ahead of its time but nobody knew it!. Lab Series L3 This is the smallest amp in the Lab Series line but it packs a musical wallop as far as sound. It is powerful AND portable which makes it attractive and desirable. The L3 is difficult to find in pristine condition. This example is. Last Modified on Jun 8, 2006 GMT |

Lab Series L5 Here is the most popular of the Lab Series line. Dennis introduced B.B. King to the L5 in1979 and he has used it ever since. This is another of the Gibson items that never reached its full potential. Last Modified on Jun 8, 2006 GMT |

Lab Series L7 This is the same head as the L5 and L9. The difference is the configuration of 4 - 10 speakers. It has a distinct sound that is both bright and fat. This amp is Super and in immaculate condition. There is nothing like a Lab! Too bad most players are not aware of them. Last Modified on Jun 8, 2006 GMT |

Lab Series L9 Here is another amp in the Lab Series line. The difference is the premium 15 EV speaker. It can be used for bass and guitar. The sound is thick and rich. Needless to say it did not sell. It is another example of tremendous quality and poor marketing. Last Modified on Jun 8, 2006 GMT |

Magnatone M-15 Here is the amp that Lonnie Mack and Bo Diddley made famous. This is an all original M-15. It is true strereo with the most unbelievable vibrato ever. Magnatone had many models but the M-15 is the best of them all. Last Modified on Jun 8, 2006 GMT |
